Posts Tagged ‘astrology isn’t real’

Why is astrology still hanging around in magazines, online and basically every space in a newspaper that couldn’t get filled by a paying advertising company? The answer is YOU! There is a scary amount of people who still believe that the time, year and month they were born governs their very existence! Does anyone ever research what they whole- heartedly believe in? Especially when it comes to something that is supposedly running your life! Religion somehow seems to spring to mind but let’s not piss everyone off today..

Pick up a book or even skim through some basic, low budget websites to discover exactly what you believe is actually just a bunch of superstitions created by humans over 4,000 years ago in their search for meaning in the skies. With the absence of science, people used what resources they had to make sense of their world; it’s just remarkable as to how ruthlessly unrelenting information can be as it gets passed down the generations before it wanes out.

The actual foundations of astrology are based on the idea that Earth is located directly in the centre of the universe. Enough said but I’ll go on, and not only that, I’ll directly copy and paste a segment from one of those ‘basic low budget’ websites I was talking about.

Because of the precession of the equinoxes, the equinox and solstice points have each moved westward about 30 degrees in the last 2,000 years. Thus, zodiacal constellations named in ancient times no longer correspond to the segments of the zodiac represented by their signs. In short, had you been born at the same time on the same day of the year 2,000 years ago, you would have been born under a different sign.

In fact, there should be 13 signs, not 12.

Case closed..

It’s unfortunate to see people not only waste their money on what is essentially only a relay of ancient human beliefs, (I’ve even done it before) but it is demoralizing in the fact that it strips the person of their right to feel, and be in control of their lives; therefore taking full responsibility for it as well.

I’m a big believer of there is a time and a place for most things… in the right context and to a certain degree. Astrology had its time, it had its place and now that place has been taken over by modern science and psychology. The truth hurts, yes undeniably, but mostly only in those first moments when you realise that there are no ‘divine powers’ guiding you through your life, that you are in complete control of your circumstances whether they are more or less fortunate than those of others. It is this which we are petrified of, it is the realisation of our responsibility for what we have or have not achieved. A part of your personality dies when you feel the pain of knowing that you cannot depend on hope, faith, luck and happy endings. But it is the clarity of seeing things exactly how they are and nothing more which can be somewhat paralyzing and disheartening for us. This seems to take the mystery and excitement out of our ‘purpose-filled’ lives, leaving only yourself and your own two hands to fulfil it.
